Anna Marie is devastated on her 17th birthday to discover that she is going blind. Her life is shattered except for her bedrock faith that her very handsome fiancé, Albert, will help her manage. Unfortunately, Albert abandons her. Not a weakling, however, she carries on making preparations and arranges for a seeing-eye dog, named Wanda, with whom she instantly bonds. At her seeing-eye training classes, she meets Arnold and his seeing-eye dog, Ralph. The dogs are instant friends, which leads to a friendship between Anna Marie and Arnold. Since Arnold, unlike Albert, is ugly, he has become used to a loveless future, but since Anna Marie cannot see him, his physical unattractiveness is no problem to her, and she soon learns that he is a much nicer person than Albert, and a strong friendship ensues.
