Book 1. In training, it wasn’t long before the nickname, “The Three Musketeers”, was firmly entrenched. They were always together. They were always into mischief. They were fiercely loyal to each other, no matter how much they might squabble amongst themselves.

My name is Frances, but at the time I’m writing about, I was mostly known as Aramis – the nickname given to me by our Peace Corps training group out of a novel by Alexandre Dumas, “The Three Musketeers”. There were three of us, two guys and me, who formed a kind of clique; the two guys were given the nicknames Athos and Porthos.
