After four years in a cold, damp England, Andy was overjoyed to be heading home to the lush tropical environment of Malawi’s tea plantations. While he’d been away, there’d been a tragedy in the family. His younger brother, Blade, on the way home from a drunken party with his fiancée, Sue, had crashed into a car full of his friends, killing three and crippling Sue. Unable to face Sue or the widespread condemnation of the tea planting community, he’d run away. Deeply depressed, Sue was hiding away at home, mourning her lover and her lost life. When Andy goes to see her, his long-repressed love for her surfaces, and he is determined to lift her out of depression and ill health. With tact and sensitivity, he succeeds, and a new love affair blossoms and is celebrated with careful but joyous lovemaking.
