In “Capricioso,” Abraham’s resolve weakens as he encounters the degraded Africa of the cities, but is strengthened by Christy’s aggressive Western behavior. He manages to tell Christy without hurting her too much, they sing a final duet at a Music Society concert, and he leaves for home. In Karonga, he and his family have a joyous reunion ending in an equally joyous sexual union with his wife.
