He tells her to walk away, go home, lock her door, forget she ever heard his name. She doesn't. That night a burner phone she does not own goes off in her bag — a cheap flip phone from a gas station — with a single message on the screen: *The scythe isn't mine. It's his. Meet me at the Troutdale bridge. Midnight. Don't tell anyone.*
The address a source pushes across to her sits less than half a mile from that bridge, on land a developer named Vincent Marchetti has spent two years quietly buying along the Sandy River through shell companies. Cole worked security for him once.
What comes after that is a wound she helps close with her own hands, a trophy room, and a tower foundation the city orders dug up.
A dark romantic suspense about a reporter with a missing sister, a man an entire city has already convicted, and the price of continuing to ask questions once everyone has told you to stop.
