Cat reads the whole contract, including the page about the mortgage on Hawthorne Lane and the page about what happens in the event of a pregnancy. She signs anyway, because a brother in treatment beats a principle.
What neither of them is prepared for is the version of the story Graham is already building, the assistant he has already leaned on, and the email Cat is eventually shown with both men's names on it and one sentence that changes what she thinks she has agreed to.
A closed-door marriage of convenience romance set in Portland, with a contract read line by line, a forged document, an uncle who has been playing a long game, and two people who signed for entirely practical reasons and did not stay practical.
