Try ElevenReader for freeElevenReader and Audible are built around different kinds of listening. Here are three of the biggest differences.
Audible has a much bigger audiobook catalog, but ElevenReader gives you more freedom to listen to books alongside your own files and documents.
ElevenReader Ultra gives you access to 200,000+ premium audiobooks, most of them professionally narrated, with 20 hours of premium listening each month. The free plan has thousands more to choose from, plus a new featured audiobook you can claim every week.
They all live in the same library as the files and links you add yourself, so everything you want to listen to stays together.
Audible has the bigger catalog, with more than 1 million titles to choose from, including podcasts and Audible Originals. Standard gives you one audiobook selection each month from the full catalog, plus podcasts and a curated set of Audible Originals. Premium includes one monthly credit plus the Plus Catalog of thousands of audiobooks, podcasts, and Audible Originals.
If you buy a book with a Premium credit, it stays in your library after you cancel. Standard selections are only available while your membership is active, and Plus Catalog titles and unused credits are lost when you cancel.
This is where the two apps really start to feel different. ElevenReader lets you turn your own books, documents, and saved content into audio, while Audible sticks to the titles available in its catalog.
Already have something you want to listen to? Upload a PDF, EPUB, Word document, web link, pasted text, or scan to ElevenReader, choose a voice, and press play. It all sits alongside your audiobooks, which makes it easy to move between your own books, work documents, or study material without changing apps.
Audible does not have a personal file reader like ElevenReader. You listen to audiobooks, podcasts, and Originals available through Audible instead. That works well if the things you want to listen to are already there. If you want to turn your own files into audio too, you’ll need a separate app.
Both apps make it easy to keep listening across devices, but Audible works with a wider range of them.
ElevenReader works on the web, iOS, and Android, plus a Chrome extension, with your library synced between web and mobile. Start on your computer, then carry on from the same place on your phone. Ultra also lets you download content in the mobile apps, so you can keep listening offline.
Audible works on iOS, Android, compatible Kindle devices, Alexa, Apple Watch, Wear OS, Fire TV, and in the car. That wider device support is handy if you like to switch between your phone, smart speaker, watch, or e-reader.
Narrator choice
ElevenReader gives you a free plan you can keep using, with 10 hours of text to audio for your own files each month and thousands of free audiobooks. Audible lets anyone with an Amazon account stream a rotating set of free titles and podcasts, and offers a 30-day membership trial if you haven’t been a member or had a trial in the past 12 months. After the trial, you’ll need a paid membership to keep its membership benefits.
For paid plans, the prices are pretty close, but you get something different from each plan.
Here’s what you can expect:
| Feature | ElevenReader | Audible |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 with 10 hours of text to audio each month and thousands of free audiobooks | Free titles and podcasts with an Amazon account; 30-day free trial of a membership |
| Monthly | Ultra: $11/month | Standard: $8.99/month; Premium: $14.95/month |
| Annual | Ultra: $99/year | Premium: $149.50/year for 12 credits; $229.50/year for 24 credits |
| Audiobook access | 20 hours of premium listening each month with Ultra | Standard: 1 audiobook selection a month from the full catalog, plus podcasts and a curated set of Originals; Premium: 1 credit a month plus the Plus Catalog |
Audible Standard is cheaper each month, but it gives you one audiobook selection a month, plus podcasts and some Originals. ElevenReader Ultra gives you premium audiobooks alongside audio of your own files, plus offline listening and the rest of the Ultra features.

I had so many PDFs for this episode...ElevenReader totally saved my butt by letting me listen to what I had to research.
While searching for an app that would allow our severely disabled son to "read" books and magazines, I stumbled across this one. He can even navigate the menus independently. Another step towards greater freedom for our teenager.
I never write app reviews. Like, ever. But ElevenReader? Oh, this app deserves a standing ovation, a round of applause, and maybe a five-star Michelin review while we’re at it.

My favorite app right now is ElevenReader....Send any article or PDF to ElevenReader and it will either convert it into audio or turn it into an AI “podcast” summary.
I am absolutely thrilled with this app. Kudos to the team for the exceptional work. As a visually impaired person, I rely entirely on this app to read absolutely everything in my life.
