He also tells her that the man who killed her father was standing in that room.
What Dom will not say is which one, because he does not yet know. His brother Enzo has wanted his chair since they were children and will use anyone to get it. Sal Bianchi's account of that night keeps changing shape. Someone in the FBI is feeding information to the Vitale family, and someone in the Vitale family is answering.
Gia is moved into Dom's house for her own protection, with orders that no one touches her and orders that she does not test it. She cooks in his kitchen. She sets two places at a table where he has eaten alone for years. She keeps her father's rosary under her shirt, the way she has for six years, since the night he pressed it into her palm and told her that knowing nothing was how she stayed safe.
What her father actually left her is a key, engraved with a year and three letters, and a box, and inside the box a deal he made with federal agents, filed beside a deal Dom's father made with the same agent fifteen years earlier.
This is a dark mafia romance about inherited loyalty and a woman who refuses to be managed, set between a Staten Island wake and a fortified house where every kindness is also a lock. The romance is closed-door.
