About this audiobook
Escrita por el británico George Orwell entre 1947 y 1948, y publicada en junio de 1949, "1984" es una novela distópica que retrata un estado totalitario absoluto sin libertad alguna.
Winston Smith vive en el superestado de Oceanía, donde no existe nada más importante que el poder, que hay que conservar a cualquier precio, y en donde la figura del Gran Hermano vigila despiadadamente las esferas más íntimas de los sentimientos humanos. Winston Smith aparece como símbolo de la rebelión contra este monstruoso poder que lo degrada completamente hasta una más que probable muerte a manos del partido.
La novela popularizó conceptos como el omnipresente y vigilante Gran Hermano; la notoria habitación 101 del Ministerio del Amor; la Policía del Pensamiento y la neolengua, una adaptación del idioma inglés en la que se reduce y se transforma el léxico con fines represivos, basándose en el principio de que lo que no forma parte de la lengua, no puede ser pensado. En el apéndice, incluido como capítulo final del audiolibro (narrado por la traductora de esta edición, Olivia de Miguel), se exponen y analizan los principios en los que se basa la neolengua.
