About this audiobook
★★★★★ A Foundational Study of Change, Matter, and Causation
On Generation and Corruption, also known as On Coming to Be and Passing Away, is one of Aristotle’s most important works on the nature of physical change. It stands at the intersection of philosophy and ancient science, asking how things come into being, cease to exist, and undergo transformation.
Building on questions already explored in the Physics, Aristotle examines whether generation results from underlying matter, causal processes, or alteration. From this broader investigation emerge some of the ideas most closely associated with his natural philosophy, including his analysis of causation and his account of the classical elements—earth, air, fire, and water.
What makes the work especially valuable today is not the scientific detail, much of which has naturally been superseded, but the philosophical framework behind it. Aristotle’s reflections on matter, change, causation, continuity, and explanation helped shape centuries of thinking about the natural world.
The treatise is also a striking example of Aristotle’s empirical method: even when reasoning about things that cannot be directly observed, he begins from experience and attempts to build a coherent account from what can be seen and examined.
This E-Bookarama Editions edition is an excellent choice for readers interested in Aristotle, ancient philosophy, the history of science, metaphysics, and the development of ideas about matter and change. Historically important, intellectually demanding, and still rewarding for its conceptual depth. Highly recommended.
