About this audiobook
Luther's Commentary on Genesis is a vast theological exposition of the Bible's opening book, moving from creation and fall to the histories of Noah, Abraham, Jacob, and Joseph. Originating in university lectures, it combines philological attention, doctrinal argument, pastoral exhortation, and vivid rhetorical energy. Within Reformation biblical scholarship, it exemplifies Luther's conviction that Genesis proclaims sin, promise, faith, and divine mercy, often reading the patriarchal narratives through a profoundly Christ-centered lens. Martin Luther, Augustinian friar, professor at Wittenberg, translator of Scripture, and central figure of the Protestant Reformation, brought to Genesis the concerns that shaped his life's work: the authority of Scripture, justification by faith, the bondage of the will, and the consolations of the Gospel. Delivered during his later years, these lectures reflect both mature theological judgment and the lived pressures of ecclesiastical conflict, pastoral care, and reform. This commentary is recommended for readers seeking more than historical annotation. Theologians, historians, clergy, and serious students of Scripture will find in it a monumental encounter between biblical text and Reformation thought: learned, argumentative, devotional, and enduringly provocative.
