When Mara Ellison returns to the quiet town of Blackwater she discovers that the lake beside it hides a terrifying secret that the town has feared for generations. Strange movements in the water reveal that enormous ancient creatures have begun to rise from deep caverns beneath the lake and one of them has already entered the surrounding forest. As the creatures awaken and the lake begins to drain into the darkness below, Mara and the sheriff realize the town is no longer safe and the horrors beneath Blackwater are only beginning to surface.
