A journalist travels to the isolated town of Hollow Marsh to investigate a series of mysterious disappearances linked to a floating lantern that appears over the swamp each night. He soon discovers that monstrous creatures live beneath the black water, and the lantern is the only thing keeping them from reaching the town. When the barrier begins to fail, he is forced to become the new lantern keeper and descend into the marsh to hold the darkness back forever.
