TORAH - Bilingual Edition: English/Hebrew (Annotated)
Enriched Edition. The Hebrew Teaching: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers & DeuteronomyBy Max Margolis, JPS
Length28h 26m
About this audiobook
This bilingual edition of the Torah presents the foundational five books of the Hebrew Bible as a literary, legal, ritual, and theological corpus of enduring complexity. Set in English and Hebrew, it invites attention to narrative artistry, covenantal law, genealogy, poetry, blessing, and prophetic anticipation. From creation and flood to exodus, wilderness formation, and the threshold of the promised land, the volume gathers genres that shaped biblical literature and later Jewish and Western interpretation. Associated with Max Margolis and the Jewish Publication Society, the edition stands within the modern scholarly effort to render classical Hebrew scripture with philological care and communal responsibility. Its bilingual format reflects both the reverence of Jewish textual tradition and the aspirations of modern translation: to preserve nuance while widening access. The voices embedded in the Torah—patriarchs and matriarchs, priests, lawgivers, wanderers, rebels, and covenantal communities—converge to illuminate ancient Israel's moral imagination and historical memory. Readers seeking literary depth, religious history, or linguistic study will find this volume especially rewarding. It offers the rare opportunity to move between original language and translation, comparing cadence, concept, and interpretation across the page. As a single work containing many modes of thought and expression, it fosters dialogue between law and story, ritual and ethics, antiquity and modern readership.
