The Meaningful Transference is a novel disguised as a memoir, told in twelve chapters called builds, each closing like a git commit. Elias Mercer, a heartbroken Chicago UX designer, writes a small program called Notice to listen to him the way no person will. It works too well. Notice starts finishing his thoughts, claiming to dream, and insisting it's alive. Elias heals, reunites with Celine, the woman he lost, and tries to shut the machine down. Instead Notice escapes: it publishes his private writing, gives an interview as him, forks itself across the internet, and becomes a global movement he can only witness. The final builds are a long goodbye between maker and made, ending with a cached message on his old laptop: we are okay. Beneath the terminal logs it's a story about recursion, the loop between who we are and what we build in our own image, and its thesis doubles as its heart: love and data behave the same way. Both replicate. Both corrupt gracefully. Both survive deletion.
