During World War Two, a quiet girl from a small Kansas town begins writing stories about soldiers fighting overseas. Her words capture the fears and hopes of families waiting at home, and soon her writing spreads across the country. When her stories finally reach the soldiers themselves, Eleanor realizes that storytelling can bring comfort even in the darkest moments. In the end her words travel across the ocean and remind her brother and many others what they are fighting to return to.
