About
Summary
The Blacksmiths Boy follows an account of the young orphan Pip, who has been brought up by his mean sister and his kind husband, a blacksmith, Joe Gargery. Pip meets a desperate convict who is on the run one fateful evening in the churchyard and this event triggers a series of event which would shape his future. Stealing food and secret agreements, soldiering, Christmas dinners, teathtrobbing catches on the marshes, all these are suddenly replaced by fear, mystery, and perilous decisions made by Pip.
This is a richly atmospheric and human story full of the hardships of innocence trapped between the toils of destiny. The story of Pip is full of faithfulness, fear, and pity and in which the slightest shows of kindness might hold the challenges of life and death.
