What stands in the way is not a league office. It is Jasper, who wants the armband and has found a reporter with a notebook. It is a home visit and a report already being drafted. It is Dante's private conviction that every moment of joy carries a tax, and the tax collector always comes due.
And it is Mateo, fourteen, who watched the training footage on the news at a friend's house and said *He's cute* purely to watch his brother turn red.
