Just Checking In
The Extraordinary Maintenance of Arthur PoundBy Matthew James Hammett
Length3h 46m
About this audiobook
Arthur Pound has spent twenty years writing novels nobody reads.
By day he works ordinary jobs. By night he writes stories that quietly pile up on a shelf in the spare room. It isn’t success. It isn’t failure. It’s just something he keeps doing.
Then one morning reality begins behaving strangely.
A woman called Eve appears with unsettling news: Arthur’s life is under audit.
Somewhere beyond the ordinary world, a system keeps a ledger of invisible labour — the quiet work that goes unnoticed, the persistence nobody applauds, the effort that never quite becomes success.
Arthur’s ledger has triggered something unusual.
The universe wants to reward him.
But perfecting a life means rewriting it… and Arthur isn’t convinced the messy version is the one that needs fixing.
Just Checking In is a darkly funny and quietly moving novel about unseen work, stubborn hope, and the strange accounting of ordinary lives.
