About this audiobook

It started innocently enough.   Someone asked you to change a phone setting, find a missing app, or connect a printer. Then came the passwords, new devices, updates, accounts, television problems, router issues, and messages beginning with, "Do you have a minute? Something isn’t working."   Congratulations.   You are now the family tech support department.   No contract. No working hours. No vacation. Somehow, however, you are expected to remain responsible for every device you have ever touched.   I’m Tired of Being the Family Tech Support is a practical guide for people who still want to help their relatives but no longer want to operate a free twenty four hour emergency help desk.   This is not a book about refusing every request or telling your parents to read the manual. It is about something far more useful: creating a way of helping that has clear limits, protects everyone's security, and gradually increases the other person's independence.   You will learn how to recognize when an occasional favor has turned into an ongoing responsibility. You will set boundaries around when you help, what you help with, and where your responsibility ends. You will also learn how to respond to the classic "it doesn’t work" before changing settings without even knowing what problem you are trying to solve.   The book introduces a simple approach to everyday troubleshooting. Start with low-risk and reversible checks. Change one thing at a time. Test the original task. Stop before a minor issue becomes a much larger one.   A major part of the book focuses on teaching instead of automatically taking over. Rather than grabbing the phone and solving everything in three seconds, you will learn how to guide someone through the task themselves. You will also learn how to create short instructions, simplify confusing devices, and reduce unnecessary digital clutter without redesigning another person's phone according to your own preferences.   Passwords, verification codes, account recovery, and backups receive their own practical treatment. The family tech support person should not become a living notebook containing everyone else's passwords. Account owners should retain control of their credentials while still being able to receive useful help.   You will also learn how to prepare relatives for forgotten passwords, lost phones, account recovery, and device replacement before the emergency happens.   Remote assistance needs rules too. When is a phone call enough? When can screen sharing help? When should you refuse remote control? And why is permanent access to someone else's device "to make things easier next time" often a poor solution?   The book also explains how to separate an ordinary technical problem from a possible scam. Passwords, codes, money, remote access, and time pressure require a completely different response from a printer that refuses to connect. Instead of reacting with panic, you will learn when to stop, verify independently, and move the issue to the correct source of help.   Banking, healthcare, government services, and workplace systems are treated with particular caution. Technical confidence is not a replacement for authorization, institutional procedures, or professional expertise. You can be helpful without impersonating the account owner, bypassing security, or making important decisions on their behalf.   You will also learn how to move to a new phone without transferring years of confusion onto a newer device, how to protect data before repairs, and how to recognize the point where professional service is a better choice than another family experiment.   Finally, the book gives you a practical thirty-day plan.   No family revolution. No complicated rules. No private IT department.   Just a few changes that can reduce interruptions, improve security, remove repeated support requests, and make sure the entire family's digital life does not depend on one person answering their phone.   The goal is not to stop helping.   The goal is to stop every request from automatically becoming your responsibility.   This publication was prepared with the use of tools supporting the creative process, including solutions based on artificial intelligence. The final concept, structure, and editing belong to the author.
