In the turbulent Scottish Highlands of 1622, two young women are summoned by King James to the Fortress of Inverness to answer charges of treason. Both believe themselves the rightful Queen of the West. One already wears the crown—a warrior whose blade has felled England’s greatest swordsmen. The other, a former maid servant, has been declared the long-hidden heir to the throne.
As one faces her accusers with an army at her back and an assassin on her trail, the other must claim a crown that may condemn her to death. Their fates entwine with three men: Constable Ewan Burberry, who discovers the trial is a façade for a dark conspiracy; Derek Ramsbrook, an enigmatic assassin stalking the corridors; and the Duke of Inverness, who hides in plain sight.
Destination: Inverness weaves court intrigue, breath-taking combat, and supernatural mystery into an unforgettable Highland saga of hope and betrayal as three factions journey toward a final, deadly confrontation.
I tried for over 20 ears to write a novel, but I failed every time. I simply couldn't sustain the inspiration. Then, during a visit to Scotland, I started writing 'The Fire Tree'. The words poured onto the page like a torrent, as if a dam had burst.
I ended up writing 4 huge books, each almost 200,000 words each.
I split those books down into 6, then 10, then finally into 12 books, each of around 60,000 words.
I have now edited, proofed & published 6 of them as an independent author.View all by Ken Peter Kirk
