Codie Peterson knows a rodeo weekend by heart. Horses off the trailer, events to run, and three friends waiting in the room at the top of the announcer's box. She can do all of it without thinking.
Then they ask her to sing the national anthem at grand entry.
Codie is the loud one. She talks to everybody and isn't scared of anything — ask anyone at Cloverdale. But nobody ever checks whether the girl who isn't scared is telling the truth. Word spreads through camp, a rival girl makes it her business, and by Saturday Codie is carrying something she can't talk her way out of.
With her family and Josie Mae, Tawny and Quinn beside her, Codie learns that real cowgirl courage isn't never being scared. It's showing up anyway.
