True Devotion to Mary
A Marian Consecration Method for Christ-Centered Discipleship, Prayer, Humility, and Total Self-SurrenderBy Louis de Montfort

About this audiobook
In *True Devotion to Mary*, Louis de Montfort presents a systematic and impassioned account of Marian consecration, arguing that complete dedication to the Virgin is not an alternative to Christian discipleship but its most effective path toward Jesus Christ. Drawing on Scripture, patristic tradition, and Catholic devotional practice, he develops the language of "holy slavery" and recommends the total offering of one's goods, merits, and spiritual life through Mary. Its fervent rhetoric, typological reading of biblical history, and concentrated devotional structure place the work within the baroque tradition of Catholic spirituality, while its Christocentric purpose distinguishes it from merely sentimental Marian piety. Though composed in the early eighteenth century and published posthumously in 1842, the treatise became a foundational text for modern Marian devotion. Montfort (1673–1716), a French priest, missionary, poet, and founder of religious communities, wrote amid the renewal of popular Catholic evangelization that followed the Reformation and the Council of Trent. His ministry among the poor and his experience of opposition shaped a spirituality emphasizing humility, missionary zeal, sacramental life, and dependence upon divine grace. His devotion to Mary emerged from this pastoral and theological vision: she is the privileged means by which believers are formed in conformity to Christ. This book is especially recommended to readers interested in Catholic theology, Marian spirituality, and the history of early modern religious culture. Its challenging vocabulary rewards careful historical interpretation, while its central invitation—to surrender oneself entirely to Christ through Mary—continues to influence devotional practice, religious communities, and Christian reflection on discipleship.
