About this audiobook
In THE SOLAR PLEXUS - Abdominal Brain, William Walker Atkinson presents the solar plexus as a vital nerve-center whose functions extend beyond physiology into emotion, instinct, vitality, and personal power. Written in the lucid, didactic prose characteristic of early twentieth-century New Thought literature, the book blends popular anatomy, psychology, and metaphysical speculation. Its central argument—that the "abdominal brain" mediates between bodily life and mental force—places it within a broader era fascinated by subconscious processes, nervous energy, and the hidden mechanisms of human will. Atkinson was a prolific American writer, lawyer, publisher, and leading voice in the New Thought movement, often associated with works on mental science, self-culture, suggestion, and esoteric philosophy. His interest in the solar plexus reflects his lifelong attempt to reconcile practical psychology with occult and spiritual traditions. Drawing on contemporary theories of nerves and mind, he framed bodily awareness as a pathway to self-mastery and inner development. This book is recommended for readers interested in the history of alternative psychology, mind-body philosophy, and the intellectual roots of modern self-help. Though its science belongs to its period, its cultural significance and disciplined optimism remain compelling.
