About this audiobook
The Ivory Snuff Box is a brisk tale of crime, concealment, and international intrigue, built around a seemingly trivial object whose significance expands into a web of danger. Kummer writes in the energetic idiom of early twentieth-century popular fiction: swift dialogue, theatrical reversals, and a keen sense of suspense guide the reader through drawing rooms, clandestine meetings, and moral uncertainties. Positioned between Victorian sensation fiction and the emerging modern mystery thriller, the novel values atmosphere and momentum as much as detection. Frederic Arnold Kummer was an American novelist, playwright, and screenwriter whose career in popular entertainment shaped his instinct for pacing and dramatic effect. His familiarity with the stage is evident in the book's carefully timed revelations and vivid scenes, while his work in magazine fiction encouraged clear plotting and immediate narrative appeal. Kummer's interest in espionage, romance, and criminal ingenuity reflects the anxieties and fascinations of his era. This novel is recommended to readers who enjoy classic mysteries with a theatrical flourish and a strong sense of period. It offers an engaging example of pre-Golden Age detective fiction, rewarding those interested in the genre's development as well as anyone seeking an elegant, fast-moving thriller.
