This book began as a question I could not stop asking myself. Not a business question, though business is woven through every page of what follows. Not a farming question, though the land is present from the first sentence to the last. I have spent the years described in these pages finding out. Through a childhood in Greater Banjul shaped by a mother's hands and a home garden that smelled of rain and red earth. Through the gradual, unhurried discovery of a passion for agriculture that had always been present in me before I had words for it. Through the building of ventures — horticultural, digital, and the unified mission that grew from both — through failures that nearly broke me and faith that held when nothing else did. This is the honest account of that finding out.

18This book is lovingly dedicated to the memory of my dear sister, Mariam Njie, whose sudden and heartbreaking passing left a void that can never be filled.

19Mariam was more than a sister to me—she was a pillar of support, a trusted friend, a benefactor, and one of the most generous souls I have ever known. From my high school years until her final days in 2024, she stood firmly by my side, supporting me financially, materially, and emotionally through every season of life.

20Living in the United States, she never forgot her family back home. She regularly sent me books, sports shoes, T-shirts, baseball caps, and the latest items she thought would bring me joy or help me grow. She opened her home to me when I lived in the United States and made sure I never felt alone. Her generosity knew no boundaries.

21Mariam had a remarkable habit of giving without expectation. She rarely saved money for herself because she found greater happiness in helping others. Family members, friends, neighbors, and even complete strangers benefited from her kindness, both in The Gambia and in the United States. If she had something and someone needed it, she would share it without hesitation.

22One of the greatest honors of my life was when she named her second son after me—a gesture that reflected the deep bond we shared as brother and sister.

23In the final decade of her life, Mariam underwent a beautiful spiritual transformation. She became deeply devoted to her faith, dedicating herself to the worship of Allah and the pursuit of Islamic knowledge and values. Our conversations increasingly revolved around faith, righteousness, gratitude, and preparation for the Hereafter. She constantly reminded those around her of the importance of pleasing Allah and living a life of purpose and compassion.

24Her smile was ever-present, her heart was open to all, and her generosity touched countless lives. Though she is no longer with us physically, her legacy of kindness, faith, selflessness, and love continues to inspire everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

25May Allah (SWT) forgive her shortcomings, accept her good deeds, widen and illuminate her grave, grant her the highest ranks of Jannatul Firdaus, and reunite us with her in eternal peace.

26Your love, sacrifices, and prayers helped shape the man I became. This book stands as a small tribute to an extraordinary sister whose impact will live on forever.

27May Allah have mercy on your soul, Mariam. Ameen.
