About this audiobook

On the Holy Spirit is Basil the Great's classic fourth-century defense of the divinity and co-equality of the Spirit within the life of the Trinity. Written with scriptural precision, liturgical sensitivity, and philosophical restraint, the treatise answers those who would relegate the Spirit to a subordinate rank. Its style is at once pastoral and forensic: Basil argues from baptismal formulae, doxology, apostolic usage, and the grammar of worship, placing the work at the heart of the post-Nicene struggle for orthodox Trinitarian language. Basil, bishop of Caesarea and one of the Cappadocian Fathers, wrote from within the doctrinal turbulence that followed the Council of Nicaea. A theologian, monk, administrator, and defender of ecclesial unity, he possessed both classical education and deep ascetic formation. His concern was not abstract speculation but the safeguarding of Christian prayer, sacramental practice, and the Church's confession against Arian and Pneumatomachian distortions. This book is essential for readers interested in patristic theology, Trinitarian doctrine, and the development of Christian worship. It rewards careful reading, offering a model of theology rooted in Scripture, tradition, and reverent intellectual discipline.
