About this audiobook

Nora Inkson makes the purest tupelo honey on the Rockvale Creek swamp, and she knows the one thing about it that no one else seems to: pure tupelo never grains. Cut it to stretch it, and no matter how clear it pours in the jar, a season later the sugar comes up white and the lie tells on itself. She has built a life on that patience. She did not know she would need it to survive her own marriage. On the night of her twenty-second anniversary, someone hands her billionaire husband a folder. In it is proof, they say, that Nora has been sleeping with the developer who wants her family's tupelo land, and feeding him secrets from inside Xavier's company. It is all a lie, staged photographs and a wire into a dead account and a jar of store honey on a table. But Xavier Ostrmere believes it in a single day. He freezes her out, files, and lets the whole town watch her burn. What he does not know, what nobody knows, is that a fake can be proven fake if you understand what leaves a mark. The honey in the photograph has crystallized, and pure Rockvale tupelo never does. Nora sends a jar to a lab that counts pollen grain by grain, and she starts pulling one true thread, and then another, until the whole golden lie begins to grain out in the light. Clearing her name does not give her husband back. Because underneath the frame is a truth Nora uncovers too, a page Xavier signed in secret that put her dead father's land inside his empire, two years of small betrayals, and the plain fact that he took a stranger's lie about his wife over twenty-two years of knowing her. The people who built the lie will answer to the law. Xavier will have to answer to her, and no amount of money will pay it. He can only prove, in deeds, day after day, what kind of man he is now, while Nora decides whether some things, once broken, can ever be remade true.
