About this audiobook
Martin Luther's Commentary on Genesis (Complete Edition) is a monumental work of Reformation exegesis, unfolding the first book of Scripture with theological intensity, pastoral concern, and vigorous rhetorical force. Moving from Creation and the Fall through the patriarchal narratives, Luther reads Genesis as a drama of promise, sin, faith, and divine mercy. His style combines close textual attention with homiletic expansiveness, often turning narrative detail into doctrinal reflection. Situated within the sixteenth-century recovery of biblical sources, the commentary exemplifies Luther's conviction that Scripture interprets itself and that Christ is the center of its meaning. Luther, the Augustinian monk turned reformer, wrote and lectured on Genesis in the later decades of his life, after the decisive controversies over indulgences, justification, and ecclesial authority had reshaped European Christianity. His own struggles with conscience, grace, and the righteousness of God deeply inform his reading. The patriarchs become, in his hands, witnesses to faith amid suffering, uncertainty, domestic conflict, and divine testing. This complete edition is highly recommended for readers of theology, biblical studies, Reformation history, and Christian spirituality. It offers not merely commentary, but a sustained encounter with one of Protestantism's formative minds interpreting Scripture as living word.
