Algernon Blackwood (1869–1951) was an English master of supernatural fiction, famed for his eerie nature tales and his pioneering occult detective John Silence. After restless years as a farmer, hotelier, and journalist in Canada and New York, he returned to England and produced classic ghost story collections such as The Empty House and Incredible Adventures. In later life, his radio and early television storytelling made him widely known as Britain’s celebrated “Ghost Man.”
