Through hard work, I left my rural origins in a island to study in Rome and later at Harvard and MIT on merit scholarships, building a career as a designer and then as a consultant at EY. I write not out of talent, as my strengths lie in maths, but to share what happened when the systems meant to provide my financial resilience failed and insurance did not pay. How I survived, and what unfolded: from entering the secluded spaces of missionary life, and experiencing what it is like to live as a nun, to navigating life‑threats in Latin America, before landing my next role two years later at Aon.
