James Keene is an American author of the novels In with the Devil, The Chicago Phoenix, and The Wanderer. He served as Executive Producer of Black Bird, the critically acclaimed Apple TV+ series based on his life and his novel In with the Devil, which captivated true-crime fans worldwide. The son of a highly decorated police officer and star football player, Keene took a few wrong turns and ended up on the wrong side of the law, eventually facing a federal conspiracy charge. While confronting a prison sentence, he accepted a government offer to go undercover as an FBI operative in the nation's toughest maximum-security prison for the criminally insane, helping solve the case of an incarcerated serial killer in exchange for his freedom. His past work with the FBI continues to inspire his writing today. After his release, Keene returned to college and earned a second degree in business. His story is one of perilous redemption. He now lives in Chicago.
