Héctor grew up in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, in and around Woodburn, the most Mexican town in the state. Before writing a word he worked jobs his characters worked: nursery yards in the wet cold, warehouse nights, other people's engines. He started writing books he had gone looking for and could not find, the ones built for the fathers and sons and comadres who hold a family together with no wage and no thank-you. SÍ PUEDES, TE TOCA, and NI MODO are the first three, a loose trilogy set in one town. Héctor Herrera is a pen name. He will tell you the stories were never only his to sign.
