Felicia Hemans (1793–1835) was the leading English poet of the late Romantic period, between the death of Byron and the rise of Tennyson. Neglected when fashions changed during the mid-nineteenth century, her work has attracted renewed interest in recent decades, especially for her penetrating treatment of gender issues.
