About this book

Summary

Paris, 1663. When young cartographer Lucien Morel inherits a fragment of a forbidden map — one his father died protecting — he is thrust into a secret that could rewrite the geography of the known world. The map points to an island that should not exist, somewhere beyond the horizon of every recorded voyage: The Distant Shores. Desperate for answers, Lucien joins an illicit expedition led by Captain Armand Duval, a disgraced explorer with his own ghosts, and Inés Duarte, a navigator whose knowledge of the sea seems almost supernatural. Their journey crosses storms, mutiny, and the edge of sanity itself, revealing that some discoveries are meant to remain hidden. But as the ocean grows darker, Lucien realizes the truth: the map was not made to find the island — it was made to keep it secret.
