She has never lost a case she believed in and has never taken one she did not. This is the first exception in fourteen years, and she takes it because a woman in scrubs said please on a set of courthouse steps, which is a reason that will not survive a single cross-examination.
What follows: the lie she has built her life on, a door she swore she would never open, the price of a second chance, the gift of a shared enemy, the taste of trust, a cage she built herself out of good intentions, a truth that breaks two people, and an enemy who has been standing in plain sight the entire time.
