Lorna doesn't scream and she doesn't beg. She does what she knows how to do — she strips the defiled house back to bare wood and reclaims it, room by room, as hers alone, and builds a business from it until she is finally visible in her own life. Gregory spends a year learning that words are worthless and only deeds count: no contact until she asks, the slow un-thrilling work of a man learning to want the ordinary he threw away, and finally selling his half of the practice — the place the double life lived — to put the deed to the house in her name, asking nothing back. The other woman, promised a future he never meant, walks away with her own dignity. And their teenage son's trust has to be earned back on its own hard clock.
