About this audiobook
Kael Vance has felt this vibration once before, on a Dominion frigate, seconds before a Vexx bio-ship uncloaked off the port bow. This time it comes up through the deck plates of Scrap-Stack Theta, a scrap station under the pale sun of the Veridian Reach, where he spends his shifts hauling I-beams for guards who couldn't spell the name of the ship he served on.
Five years ago he commanded a boarding team. These days he is a convicted traitor with a cheap Dominion medical-discharge arm, its synth-skin reflecting nothing back, as much a brand as a prosthetic. The guards have never seen what it hides: a data-spike in the palm, an old Naval Intelligence slicing tool he has kept through strip-searches and five years of forced labor. The last time he used it, it got his entire squad killed.
The ceiling comes down. The Vexx drop through the breach like spiders on silk, chitin-armored and four-jawed, their bio-rifles spitting mucus that eats through steel, while the guards on the gantry fire at anything that moves, prisoner or alien. Kael takes a dead guard's rifle and runs for Bay Seventeen.
An old cellmate, a smuggler named Quill, told him what is berthed there before he died: the Marauder's Fang, an experimental corvette mothballed after her neural link fried her test pilot's brain, core still inside, waiting for someone stupid enough to try. With a sealed blast door ahead and the station coming apart behind him, stupid is starting to look like a plan.
