A medical resident named Nora finds a self-writing purple book about "fading" people erased when forgotten. She learns the Keeper, an ancient being, feeds on hoarded attention. After saving eleven people, Nora realizes sharing stories, not hoarding them, defeats the hunger. She gives the book away. Graduate student Leo becomes the next reader, building an online community of shared memories. He confronts the Keeper, who confesses he's a lonely librarian preserving faded souls. Leo helps him release the books, transforming the library into a net of shared attention proving that connection, not solitary keeping, saves us from the void.
