A boy named Kaelen is taken from his home and forced into the Obsidian Spire, where he learns to forge emotional chains that bind people’s wills. After fifteen years, he refuses to forge the final link in the Mighty Chain imprisoning the First Unbound. Given a magical key inscribed “You are allowed to change your mind,” he frees the Spire’s prisoners and transforms chains into threads of connection. He crosses the breathing sea, spreads the key across forgotten lands, and returns home. The story spans millennia, showing that true freedom is not the absence of chains but the power to choose which ones to wear.
