Mara witnesses a terrifying phenomenon: people falling from the sky with soil on their feet, inexplicably returning from near-death or comas. Drawn into a mysterious liminal world called the Between, she discovers the Fallen—souls caught between life and death, some lost, some dangerous. Guided by a survivor, Mara uncovers a decades-old disruption in the balance of the living and the lost. She learns she is the bridge, able to give the Fallen choice and release their trapped essence. In a climactic confrontation, she restores balance, freeing the Fallen to move on, and returns changed but at peace, carrying their memory.
