2The flight to Honolulu went uneventful. The couple checked into The Royal Hawaiian on Waikiki Beach, often called The Pink Palace of the Pacific. Their days were filled with late mornings with breakfasts on the seaside balcony, island tours to such places as the Dole Plantation, and the Surfer beaches. One day they planned a visit to the USS Arizona.
5He felt his heart pounding, and his legs grew weak. He searched for a bench and collapsed onto one.
3Inside the Museum they read of the Japanese attack and the damage to the, USS Arizona and The USS Oklahoma. There were 29 others with minor to major damage, but within 24 months, most of these had been repaired and were back at sea. Most of them were repaired by women who had never welded in their lives. Tony and Susan bought tickets to take the shuttle out to the USS Arizona Memorial. Before boarding the shuttle, Tony began reading the information on the brochure. He read how 1,102 of the 1,177 sailors and Marines killed that day are still on the ship at the bottom during the attack on that fateful day on December 7, 1941. He read that there are still oil drops floating to the surface, and they are referred to as black tear drops. Suddenly Tony imagined standing there, looking down upon those bodies. Suddenly his mind took him back to Vietnam. Those oil drops when they reached the surface evolved into forms. Bloody, mutated forms. Forms with nicknames like Cookie or Livy, or Hank or B
