And there is his uncle, who has been selling this valley by degrees for years, and who will be dealt with the way an alpha deals with a traitor the moment Kael brings back proof.
Then Carrow moves Wren to the station, and the arithmetic collapses.
*You don't have time,* Rue says, soft and steady, with the tracker already in her hand and the plan already made and no intention whatsoever of telling him the rest of it.

Calder sounds the war council. Every able-bodied wolf, now, no exceptions.
And somewhere between the price of a vision and the night she became something other than what she arrived as, he stops counting the days until she leaves and starts counting something else entirely.
He tells himself he will let her go when the road clears.
He will not. Not then, not after, not ever.
