Set in Northern Ireland in April 1998, a time of historic change with the signing of the Good Friday peace agreement. The story follows Mick Kennedy, a long-standing member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA).
Mick hopes for a peaceful future. He is disillusioned by the indiscriminate violence he has witnessed and believes the new peace agreement offers him a chance to build a normal life with the woman he loves, Maureen. However, his violent past as an IRA member resurfaces, threatening to destroy the new life he is trying to create. The novel's central conflict arises when Mick is forced to confront his old life and protect his family using the skills and methods he knows best.
