Barbara Baynton (1857–1929) was born at Scone, NSW, to Irish bounty immigrants. As a writer, Baynton was most famous for her short stories about life in the bush. Bush Studies was published in 1902, followed by the novel Human Toll in 1907. Baynton also wrote for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Bulletin.
