About this audiobook
The Door with Seven Locks is a briskly engineered British mystery in which a lawyer's death, a sealed family tomb, and an eccentric system of seven keys draw the reader into a labyrinth of murder, inheritance, and Gothic menace. Wallace fuses the puzzle mechanics of Golden Age detection with the sensational energy of the Edwardian thriller: secretive doctors, imperiled heirs, criminal conspiracies, and macabre architecture all move at cinematic speed. Its prose is direct, dramatic, and highly readable, reflecting a popular tradition in which atmosphere and momentum matter as much as ratiocination. Edgar Wallace, one of the most prolific writers of the early twentieth century, brought to fiction the instincts of a journalist, dramatist, and born storyteller. His experience in newspapers sharpened his eye for crime, public scandal, and narrative urgency, while his theatrical work taught him the value of revelation and cliff-hanger structure. This novel shows Wallace's characteristic fascination with hidden identities, institutional corruption, and the thin line between respectability and criminality. Readers who enjoy classic British mysteries with Gothic shadows and relentless pacing will find this an absorbing work. It is especially recommended for admirers of early crime fiction who value ingenuity, atmosphere, and the pleasures of a mystery designed to entertain without sacrificing craft.
