About this audiobook

Sound Poetry: History and Developments of a Poetic Vanguard investigates the evolution of sound poetry as a radical, transdisciplinary literary form. Drawing from a dissertation originally presented at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), this revised English edition deepens the discussion on the aesthetic and political implications of sound in poetic creation. The book includes interviews with poets and scholars from Brazil and abroad and examines the work of key avant-garde practitioners. A central reference throughout the study is the pioneering theoretical framework of Brazilian poet and researcher Philadelpho Menezes. His vision of intersemiotic and performative poetics significantly shapes the analysis. While the original Portuguese edition (2009) included a preface by Brazilian artist Wilton Azevedo, this English edition is introduced by renowned Italian sound poet Enzo Minarelli. The translation includes more paraphrased passages for accessibility without compromising academic depth. Published by Dialética, this edition is available in print, digital, and audiovisual formats. The book is a key resource for readers, researchers, and artists interested in experimental poetry, performance, and the expanded possibilities of the poetic voice.
