About this audiobook
"Moon of Madness" unfolds as a captivating tale of youthful rebellion, romance, and intrigue set against the vibrant backdrop of Funchal and a German liner anchored in the bay. At the heart of the story is Nanette, an adventurous and spirited eighteen-year-old, whose charm and desire for freedom draw the attention of several men, notably Jack Kelton, who is entranced by her beauty. Her quest for adventure leads her to explore the German liner, despite her parents' protective instincts, setting the stage for a narrative rich with themes of youthful recklessness and the quest for independence. Nanette's interactions with the enigmatic Major Edmond O'Shea, the mysterious Senhor Gabriel da Cunha, and others aboard the ship create a tapestry of romantic tensions and generational conflicts. Her flirtation with danger is epitomized by a near-drowning incident in the bay, from which Jack dramatically rescues her, further complicating the tangled relationships. As the story progresses, the luxurious setting of a Madeira hotel becomes a stage for deeper connections and rivalries. O'Shea's aloofness and the allure of Da Cunha's attentions add layers of complexity, while the narrator, Decies, becomes entangled in a web of secrecy and intrigue involving a mysterious portfolio. This portfolio, thought to contain valuable information, turns out to hold mere newspaper clippings, revealing a deeper conspiracy orchestrated by the shadowy Adolf Zara. The narrative crescendos with Decies confronting sinister figures in a cliffside house, grappling with themes of loyalty and betrayal. The tension heightens as Decies faces a moral dilemma, balancing the weight of his choices against the backdrop of a perilous rescue mission for Nanette, ultimately weaving a thrilling tale of love, trust, and the murky nature of truth. This edition has been fully restored with modern typesetting, custom cover design.
