The Book legislates the estate with a thoroughness given to no other civil subject — and this book reads the whole file. The revolution opens it: 'for men a share... and for women a share' (4:7) — the women named as owners in the estate's first sentence. The shares' table follows (4:11-12): the children's, parents', and spouses' portions legislated to the fraction, the double-portion read at the duty-ledger, and the payment-order sworn twice ('after any bequest he made or any debt'). The kalalah cases receive the Book's double care (4:12, 4:176 — the childless estate's full mathematics). The purpose-file answers the era's first question: why fixed shares? The grief-season protected from the estate-battles — 'these are the limits of Allah' (4:13-14), the Fire-clause as the family's shelter. The bequest-rules (2:180-182: the fair will, the alteration-ban, the mediator's license; 5:106-108's two just witnesses; the tradition's third-cap — labeled throughout).
