About this audiobook
In "Finished," H. Rider Haggard weaves a masterful narrative that explores themes of obsession, betrayal, and the supernatural against a backdrop of adventure set in the late 19th century. The novel exhibits Haggard's characteristic vivid prose and rich descriptions, captivating readers with intricate characterizations and the atmospheric tension that defines his literary oeuvre. The story follows the fate of Allan Quatermain, a seasoned explorer, as he navigates treacherous political landscapes and personal vendettas, ultimately questioning the moral boundaries of his pursuits. Haggard artfully marries adventure with psychological depth, engaging the reader in a complex exploration of human ambition and its potential to lead to ruin. H. Rider Haggard, a pioneering figure in the adventure fiction genre and one of the progenitors of the colonial narrative, often derived inspiration from his extensive travels in Africa. His experiences in the continent deeply informed his writing, imbuing it with authenticity and a nuanced view of imperialism.
